Should the government force unemployeds over a year+ work at lower income jobs?

My personal opnion is.. I think there's way too many people milking off the system and if they can't find a $20 hourly job should they be forced to work at mcdonalds or Dublin donuts and only have very limited government income? I'd rather see that than veterans or our troops not get paid... There are jobs out there but most people are just lazy or got too comfortable!! WTFShould the government force unemployeds over a year+ work at lower income jobs?
My personal belief which I hope makes sense to you is that those who are unemployed for a year stop getting unemployment and instead get some menial government job like working at the DMV or a janitor at a courthouse. When those jobs are full up then a new government agency should be started like a government owned company (similar to USPS) that works as a temp agency.
Well congress approved two years unemployment benefits, which means many will start to look for a job in eleven more months.Should the government force unemployeds over a year+ work at lower income jobs?
Yes. The only sensible program that came out of the last depression was the WPA. We need it back.

All of the other programs from the depression except the WPA stuck around... welfare the Ponzi scheme known as social security.... But not the WPA.
OK, go in with a degree and a long professional work history. McDonalds won't hire you. "Overqualified." is the response.

I've got a friend who has 15 years experience as a SQL database manager. Got laid off. Sent out over 4,000 resumes. Finally got a job as a retail clerk. Fired four weeks later because the manager was afraid of his education.

Reality disagrees with your premise.Should the government force unemployeds over a year+ work at lower income jobs?
Its veterans that can't find work, and for people to get unemployment insurance, they have to have worked for it, and for the government to step in and pay for those unemployed for over a year, there has to be significant unemployment or it doesn't happen. In no state does someone make the same from unemployment as they do from their previous job, and yet their previous bills remain the same.

These aren't lower income people, in too many cases they made good money for years and were let go when the company moved, or ceased to exist. The older workers get fired first, and you can't send a kid to college if you are making minimum wage.

But the crux of your idea is unworkable. We cannot force a private employer to hire from a specific labor pool. As it is, employers are asking that the unemployed not apply, their thinking is that if they were good workers, they wouldn't have been let go. In this economy that's nonsense.

As a group, veterans have a difficult time getting a job. Your method would be hurting them too.

Reality stinks in this one, there simply are no longer enough jobs to go around.

And the ones that are filled at the bottom level don't require, or want, college grads, because the employer feels that they will leave the first time a better job comes along, and it costs them to train a worker so they don't want fast turnover.
The first thing our government should do is get out of bed with the unions. Allow business to go broke if they can't compete. Second Tax the hell out of American companies who take jobs out of this country and bring products back here to sell. Forget pushing the Green agenda and and leave it to the private sector to solve. Next allow drilling for oil here in our own country and stop buying it from people who hate us and are trying to destroy us, Before you know it everyone would have good jobs and make a good living wage, End of problems.
I'd prefer to see the government compensate people who've been out of work that long, for the losses they've suffered to their bank accounts and self-esteem, and offer them help getting retrained. And I'd like to see your tax dollars pay for it.
How can the government force a private company to hire more people that they need. Companies have waiting list of people willing to work for them already, even at the low wages they pay. The government would have to provide the jobs if the want to force people to work, but many people want cut the number of government workers not increase them.
Yes. I dont get why people put their noses up to low income jobs. First off you can keep looking for that better paying job while you are flipping burgers.
YOUR WISH HAS BEEN PARTIALLY MET

New York City actually does what you advocate to an extent.

If you collect welfare and you are able-bodied then the City of NY

can force you to work for the City or lose your benefits. You do

menial jobs such as cleaning parks.

However it would be logistically challenging for the County to

force people to take jobs with private employers.

I鈥檓 sure it can be achieved if enough planning is put into it.

I鈥檓 all for it.

BTW, I鈥檓 a liberal.
what if there is no jobs to find ?...there is only 20 million unemployed or under employed
welfare moms do it- so, yeah- slavery for YOU, TOO-

since it's good enough for them.
